Friends of Little Spokane River Valley Goals
As Agreed to by the Board of Directors September 8, 1998
    Vision:
Our vision is to promote and maintain quality of life in this valley with its unique meandering river. In this place, people will enjoy its beauty, feel secure, and experience a sense of community.

1.Goal: Preserve and sustain the unique character of the Little Spokane River Valley, including it's open space and natural setting, maintaining lower density zoning.
    a.Objective: Preserve low density:
i.Support the rural designation formed by the UGA and support transition from urban to rural densities within the UGA.
ii.Maintain a corridor of low density zoning along the Little Spokane River and its tributaries.
iii.Maintain no greater than the present, as- built density (no greater than 1 unit per 5 acres) from the floor to the rim of the valley--and beyond the rim where it affects our water quality.
b.Objective: Discourage heavier use of Little Spokane Dr. and its feeder roads while improving safety for recreational use.
i.Maintain Little Spokane Dr. as a 2 lane "country" road.
ii.Encourage improvements such as wider shoulders and/or bike lanes that make it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.
c.Preserve and promote the historical significance of the LSRV.
2.Goal: Protect the area's ecosystem including water quality, wetlands, priority habitat and wildlife, and dwindling native vegetation.
a.Preserve and protect current species and their habitat using conservation easements, conservation futures, open space incentives, green belts, wildlife corridors, and public areas.
b.Protect the water quality in the valley by requiring effective waste and storm water management. Promote research, study, and monitoring of the aquifer recharge region for the Little Spokane watershed.
3.Goal: Encourage the development of area parks.
a.Encourage play fields and developed parks near the denser residential areas and adjacent to public facilities.
    b.Encourage undeveloped natural areas.
    4.Goal: Communicate FLSRV concerns.
a.Dialog with public officials, being pro-active when major issues are at the forefront.
b.Gather and disseminate information to the community, membership and media.
c.Establish and maintain a communication network with other community associations in Spokane county.
5.Goal: Develop a greater sense of safety and security by promoting and facilitating community oriented policing and security.
